Shell Recharge unveiled its plan to set up an electric vehicle charging hub in Resorts World Genting, which will consist of 10 charging bays outfitting an ultra-fast 360kW high-performance charging (HPC) to enable electric vehicles (EV) accessibility up in Malaysia’s premier integrated resort destination by early next year.
Made possible through the strategic partnership with Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia Berhad, this EV hub will be the latest addition to the Shell Recharge EV network of 136 charging points strategically located in key cities and along highways in Peninsular Malaysia, connecting Singapore, Malaysia to Thailand.
“With the addition of 10 charging bays at the hilltop of Resorts World Genting, we continue to make headway towards a continued commitment of enabling a net-zero transport solution in Malaysia.
Soon, EV customers from all over the country and beyond will be able to drive their way up to this premier resort without having range anxiety, experiencing a worry-free journey with our Shell Recharge network,” said Seow Lee Ming, General Manager of Shell Mobility, Malaysia.
During the tripartite partnership announcement, Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance, representing Porsche Malaysia, shared: “Our partnership with Shell Recharge is a testament to our commitment to enabling long-distance, cross-border travel in an EV, connecting three countries - Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. We are delighted to further elevate seamless charging experience for our Porsche Taycan owners, as well as other Porsche electric vehicle models on the horizon, with this new high-performance Shell Recharge 360kW DC charging hub in Resorts World Genting, providing ultra-fast charging speeds of just approximately 20 minutes for a complete 5-80% State of Charge (SoC).”
“We are honoured to be able to offer a high-performance EV charging hub to our guests. With the rapid adoption of EV cars in Malaysia and across the region, this will help promote sustainable tourism and provide convenience to our visitors up at Resorts World Genting,” said Gary Chen Wing Kong, Senior Vice President, Real Estate Development and Project of Genting Malaysia Berhad.
The all-in-one charging hub will outfit 10 bays comprising four bays of 360kW high-performance charging and six bays of 22kW AC chargers. All chargers come with CCS Type 2 charging connectors, allowing EV drivers a super-fast speed charging experience at the hilltop.
Shell Recharge is transitioning to the kilowatt-hour (kWh) pricing mechanism. Customers can now charge with the new kWh rates when they charge with AC chargers nationwide effective 1st November while for DC charging stations, beginning 15th December. The Shell Recharge model
maintains a reservation fee and will implement an idle charge across different charging archetypes to prioritise the smart parking bays for EV owners.
For a seamless and worry-free journey, customers can still reserve parking bay in advance via Shell’s ParkEasy app. Other features include navigation access for EV customers to assist drivers in locating available bays and a parking barrier to ensure the bay's availability.
